Our staff is fortunate to have forty plus years of experience in making County Soil Survey Maps throughout the state of Virginia.  These general soil maps are intended to alert the reader to the broad range of conditions, problems and the soil potential for each map unit. 

 

Realizing the limitations of this soil map, we can provide our customers service that will offer much more detailed soil and cultural information to the land use decision makers.

 

 

 

 

 

To make these detailed maps we use an aerial photo (1”=400’) with the best topo available. As Certified Professional Soil Scientists, we will walk the property and identify landscapes and the soils occupying these areas.

 

The landscapes are then drawn onto the base map and the soil mapping unit identified.  Along with a custom interpretive guide, developed for a specific parcel, you could do what we call “Kitchen Table Engineering”.

 

 

 

This 1”=400’ detail soil survey map will allow you to make planning decisions which could include such items as road and lot layout, drain field potential, possible wetlands, shrink-swell soils, highly erosive areas, storm water management information, etc.  This detail soil survey information may provide you with enough information with which you could decide whether or not to go forward with a project.
